Hospital: Steve Scalise remains in ‘serious’ condition after surgery

U.S. Majority Whip Steve Scalise remains hospitalized in serious condition following surgery Thursday to treat infection related to wounds he sustained in a mass shooting last month.

“He tolerated the procedure well,” MedStar Washington Hospital Center said in an update on his condition Thursday afternoon, adding that further details would be provided as appropriate.

Scalise, 51, was readmitted to the intensive care unit at the Washington, D.C. hospital on Wednesday and his condition downgraded from “fair” to “serious” — a setback that came nearly two weeks after he was first moved out of the ICU. Thursday’s surgery was at least his fourth procedure since the June 14 shooting, and he has undergone several blood transfusions…
