La. task force to consider full reimbursement for flood-stricken homeowners

A state-run panel will decide Friday whether to make full compensation possible for thousands of Louisianans hit by floods in March and August 2016.

The Restore Louisiana Task Force will vote on the proposal to grant homeowners 100 percent reimbursement, up from the current 50 percent. Approval would open an additional $110 million to more than 10,000 eligible residents.

“A lot of folks drew money out of their savings accounts or their retirement to go rebuild their house,” said task force chairman Pat Forbes, who also leads the state’s Office of Community Development. “We’re eager to get that money back in the hands of people”…
