Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy receives environmental stewardship award
The American Association of Petroleum Geologists has awarded Chesapeake Energy Corp. its 2017 Corporate Award for Excellence in Environmental Stewardship, high praise for scholarly environmental work that comes three years after the company received one of the largest fines for environmental damage.
The honor is granted by the geology association’s Division of Environmental Geosciences, but only when the group deems an entity worthy of receiving it. The recognition was last awarded five years ago.
“This is an environmental excellence award that recognizes the stewardship we’ve taken in our assets,” said Brittany Benko, Chesapeake’s vice president of environment, health and safety. “One of the things we’re interested in is good data and good science informing the decisions we make and the interface we have with the community. We want to be good neighbors, and we want to make sure the public is safe”…
