U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise ‘resting comfortably’ after surgery Wednesday

U.S. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise has made it out of surgery and is in “fair” condition in the hospital after a planned procedure related to injuries he received in a mass shooting last summer.

“The surgery went well, and he is listed in fair condition,” MedStar Washington Hospital Center said in a statement Wednesday evening. “He is likely to remain in the hospital for several days and will then continue his recovery at home.”

The Washington-area hospital is where Scalise spent nearly four months recovering from a gunshot wound to the hip that left him nearly dead on a Virginia-area baseball field after a gunman opened fire on Congressional Republicans as they practiced for a charity baseball event.
