The Louisiana Oil & Gas Association (LOGA) and the Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association (LMOGA) today issued the following statements applauding the advancement of Senate Concurrent Resolution 7:

“We applaud Senator Sharon Hewitt and members of the Louisiana Senate for advancing SCR 7 today, which urges local leaders in a few select parishes to dismiss the coastal lawsuits that are having a disproportionate impact on entire state,” said LOGA President Gifford Briggs. “The lawsuits target over 200 companies— the majority of which are small and independent operators, who help provide over 33,000 direct high-paying jobs and $3 billion in wages.”

“With today’s vote, the Louisiana Seante is sending a clear message that it’s long past time to address the oil and gas lawsuits,” said LMOGA President Tyler Gray. “We applaud Senator Hewitt and all the members for their leadership and support of SCR 7.”

“We would also like to thank Senator Bob Hensgens for his tireless efforts on SB 359, which would have reaffirmed the state’s sole authority to bring enforcement actions over uses of state concern,” said Gray. “This clarification would have streamlined enforcement actions across the coastal zone and put the state in the driver’s seat in the coastal lawsuits.”

“Senator Hensgens is a champion for our coast and our communities,” said Briggs. “We look forward to continuing to work with Sen. Hensgens and every member of the legislature in support of these reforms in future sessions. Our coast and our future depend on it.”
