As much as it pains me to write this, our Legacy bill (SB 459) is dead in the Senate. We were unable to get a vote on the Senate floor when we had the votes to pass it, then three senators flipped after an erroneous effort to tie legacy lawsuits to coastal lawsuits.
We spent months pouring into this bill, and as I told you last week, this would’ve been the biggest legislative accomplishment since I took over as LOGA President in 2020.
Unfortunately, the oil and gas industry has been held voiceless on the Senate floor.
It’s very disheartening to see the legislative process at its worst.
We were sure hoping for a long awaited win for oil and gas. For decades, these lawsuits have pushed investment out of our state. For now, it looks like Louisiana is still closed for business.
